And Jesus sitting over against the treasury, beheld how the people cast money into the treasury, and many that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow, and she cast in two mites, which make a farthing. And calling his disciples together, he saith to them: Amen I say to you, this poor widow hath cast in more than all they who have cast into the treasury. For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want cast in all she had, even her whole living. -Mark 12:41-44

Holy Week and Easter was a blessed time at St. Sophia parish! We were more focused on living our faith than on documenting it so few videos or pictures were taken. Here are a couple to give you a glimpse into our celebrations of Jesus’ life-giving death and saving Resurrection. We hope you come and see for yourself soon as we look forward to sharing the hope that is in us with you!
On Sunday March 25, we hosted a Tribute to
Tomorrow is Palm Sunday and we’re having a fundraising bake sale with delicious Pascha foods. People who attended the Shevchenko celebration last week got a sneak peek.
Our parish celebrated an achievement today with our first parish-wide catechetical session. Father Pavlo and Father Deacon John discussed the Great Fast. If you were unable to attend, ask them for the Generations of Faith handouts.
The parish picnic was a great success! A few of the activities we had were face painting, temporary tattoos, a hula hoop contest, bean bag toss, cake walk, a lollipop pull, our delicious food, Christmas cards for soldiers, singers, cotton candy, a reptile petting zoo, and our delicious food! And Liz was the lucky winner of a Kindle!
The parish picnic is going on right now.
We had a wonderful pancake breakfast last Sunday!
Following the Divine Liturgy which included a children’s homily, we had a fantastic Fall Festival for the children.
We made nearly 1500 pirogies yesterday! Potato and sauerkraut, potato and onion, potato and jalapeño, potato with cheddar cheese, potato with farmer’s cheese, and sauerkraut were all made and are available for order. You can call the parish office any time, stop by the coffee hour after Sunday Liturgy, or come to our picnic on Nov 12th where we’ll have pirogies, halupki, and much more available!
